Leaving for work

This morning you work up right before I left for work. Mommy went into your room to get you. The FIRST thing you asked was, “Where my daddy?” So I walked in and you got a big smile on your face. It was so nice. But the caper for the morning was when I asked for a hug and kiss. You ran over to me as fast as you could and wrapped your little arms around my neck and then gave me a peck. I stood up and you moved toward my leg. I thought you were going to ‘help’ me find the door, but instead you gave my leg the biggest hug ever.

I so didn’t want to come to work today.

Ahh … the beach

It’s always nice to get out of the desert and head to our favorite place on the coast. Grandma Janie’s trailer. It’s a good time and there’s always lots of opportunities for pictures. The fun down at the beach. Breakfast at the hippy place. The train ride to no where. And so, I was raring and ready to go with each of these activities to take a picture or two here and there. Only, the conversation that seemed to occur more often than the fun we had was, “I thought you had the camera.”

So, no pictures this time. But a lot of good times. On Saturday we went to the beach and thought for sure that you’d only last for about 5 minutes, seeing as how you went to bed at 10:30 and woke up with the 5:40 train.

But no, you were a perseverer and stayed as active as possible at the beach and were only convinced to go back to Taywum’s House by the lure of MILK.

On Sunday we rode the train with Grandma Janie and Mimi, “Just to see where it would go.” You were very excited, although after an hour of going to the end of the line, you were done. The only problem of course is that we still needed to go back to our stop. Luckily, we found a stop to get off at and have lunch, so that provided the necessary respite you needed from your train adventures.

I think we had so much fun as a family this weekend. It’s just too bad we didn’t get an pictures. Well, maybe next time. :)

Brushing your teeth

Last night you didn’t want to brush you teeth. You did everything you could to keep from performing that chore. First, it was ‘Abby do it’. I said, no, ‘Daddy do it’. Then you walked around in circles with your mouth agape and generally acting silly. I cracked a smile (because it was funny!) and this was my downfall! In the sternest daddy voice I could muster I said, ‘Abby, we need to brush your teeth.’ But of course, when a daddy is smiling and trying to be stern it just looks silly.

I’ll need to work on that :)

Abby watches Seasame Street!

Yesterday you went down for your nap later than normal. There were consequences. You had no intention of going to be, even as Mommy sang as you screamed. She put you down and went to our room to read a bit with the door slightly open so she could make sure you fell asleep.

As mommy read you continued to scream and then it stopped. This silence was followed by an “Ouch. Ouch.” Mommy listened hard to make sure you were still ‘alive’ when suddenly she heard the sound of your door opening and your little foot steps walking towards the room.

You announced with all of the gusto your tear-streaked, snooty-nosed self would allow, “Abby watch Sesame Street!” and then walked to the TV … AND TURNED IT ON!

Well, that ended with Mommy picking you up and putting you to bed, although this time you were a little more willing to stay in your crib.

And thus begins the troublesome teen years.

Hide and Go Seek

Reason number 42 that you are the coolest kid EVER. While sitting at a restaurant the other day we sat on one side of the table while Mommy sat on the other. You dropped down to place your head on the seat, covered your eyes and began counting. You made it all the way to 10 and then said, “Dayee. Are youoooo? Dayee. Are youuuuu?” As you did this you looked left. And you looked right. And then you looked right at me and said, “There’s my dayee!” And gave me a big hug.

If there’s anything better in the world I’d rather not know what it is.
